Love the clear and informative video. I had never taken a laptop apart before, But after watching your video I felt confident that I could. So I followed your instructions and replaced the power jack and board on my Acer 5570. The Acer fired right up and again works like a charm. Replacement jack and power board only cost me $12. Would have cost me around $130 to get repaired at a local shop, so you saved me a lot of money. Really appreciate your time and effort.

hi..i have the same exact problem with my acer aspire 3680.i disassembled my laptop.just like u did. And my yellow power jack was cracked in half. I would like to know what do i need to do what u did..superglue the jack back together.but do i also need any other special equipment to solder anything?

thanks it is a best video ever ,the best way to remove the broken jack is to soldiering on top and use old toothbrush to remove it,it works perfect for me but be careful when you brush it on top as mine came off but with two nearest transistors, never mind since the laptop works perfect.AAA++++++

This video was great help. I bought a power jack board on E-bay for $11.98 with free shipping. Put it in today, but the board that I bought had an issue. The USB ports were mounted at a slight angle holding the top cover up slightly enough so that the power button couldnt activate the the power switch on the board. With more investigating I had realized that the orig. board was ok. My prob. was in the dc jack. When I orig. tested it had 19v ALWAYS! But it had a very slight dimple n it.LOL. fun

Thanks for this video, my husband and I were able to fix our laptop and it is now working great!

Thanks for this, I followed your video (mostly) to fix our Aspire 9300 and although I had never taken a laptop apart before it was a success. The most difficult part being de-soldering the old connector. Anyway, the repair cost a whopping £2.80 (for the connector). If I see you down the pub in Salisbury (UK) I’ll get you a beer!

Thanks for this video, I’m going to try this tomorrow. Its amazing that a company such as Acer are too cheap to help their customers for free. Why would I pay $130 for 90 minutes of phone support?

  12. zeusenergy says:

@GeezerKids Not sure. It could be similar but you may want to search for a manual..

  13. GeezerKids says:

hi mate, would the process be the same for the acer aspire 6920 jack replacement? (besides the obvious case differences)

  14. jonnyrobinson1 says:

Had exactly the same problem. The plastic around the jack was broken also. I soldered it and used 5 minute epoxy to glue the broken plastic part to the metal holder. I am sure they would have charged me a couple of hundred bucks to repair it. Thanks to your video, I was able get mine working for about two hours of my time. Thanks again for this video.

  15. zeusenergy says:

You will have to tear down the entire machine such as I have in the video, sadly. good luck pivitman…

where did u plug the black and white monitor (power?) cable in? I cant figure this out :(

  21. zeusenergy says:

@tabbington I wouldn’t bother. The only option is to fix, or use battery power only if you can fabricate a battery holder/charger. Getting the battery setup like that would also mean two batteries needed at all times, to swap out between long uses. All that will cost you- quite a lot more than just paying the $50-60 it takes to buy a whole inner board which is easy to replace.

  22. tabbington says:

any alternatives? like an extended battery with a built in jack?
or a standalone battery charger that doesn’t cost 74 dollars?

  23. drewmichael25 says:

thanks Zeus it was the motherboard!! Ebay saved me, I bought a parts computer where the display was broken but motherboard worked and transplanted it much cheaper than buying a new motherboard and I have spare parts now too..

  24. zeusenergy says:

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you what’s wrong. It could be the internal power regulation circuit not playing nice with the battery and laptop at the same time. The power adapter does both, and the circuit inside the laptop built into the motherboard is supposed to deal with smart charging and regulating the power to both. It could just be a bad motherboard. But that’s a guess…

Hi Zeus, nice to watch your video. Thanks for your efforts. I have an issue here. Hope you can help me analize it. I have an Acer Aspire 4520 notebook. Now when it is off and connected with the power cable, I can see the battery is charged and the charged light is on. However, when I turn it on, it starts running from the battery, not from the power cable. When I take off the battery and turn it on from the power cable. It doesn’t run. What do you suggest?
